Stem delivery

Delivering stems and multitracks for mixing

A mix starts with files that line up. This guide explains how to deliver material for Mixing — tracked at home or in our rooms — so engineer Maarten van der Berg can work without delay.

Stems versus project files

For €235 per title we mix from stemmed WAVs or a tidy multitrack export. Plugin-heavy sessions we do not share licenses for need printed stems: each track as audio, effects committed where needed. In Logic, Ableton, Pro Tools or Reaper, export every track from the same start point (bar 1, sample 0).

Tracked with us? Raw takes stay 9 months on our systems; you can add mix without re-exporting. External recordings come by link or drive — see contact for upload details.

Format and quality

Send uncompressed WAV, preferably 24-bit 48 kHz — common for Dutch streaming and video workflows. 44.1 kHz is fine if the album was tracked that way; do not hop rates between bounces. No MP3 or AAC as mix source unless we agree upfront for a specific job (podcast clips, reference).

Keep mono tracks mono; stereo only where it belongs (overheads, keys, double guitars). Check clipping before export: peaks below 0 dBFS, headroom to about −6 dB on drum buses is healthy.

Naming and folders

Use clear names: Song_Kick.wav, Song_LeadVocal.wav, not «Audio 1_final_FINAL2». One folder per title; add a text file with tempo (BPM), key and any grid offset.

Typical rock/pop minimum
GroupTracks
RhythmKick, snare, overheads, room
BassDI + amp if present
HarmonyRhythm and lead guitar
VocalLead, plus doubles and ad-libs if separate

Instruments beyond a standard track count are billed as €45 per extra stem per title — list them at intake.

References and mix notes

Send one or two reference tracks (streaming links or short WAV) plus notes: «vocals slightly forward», «tighter bass», «drier drums». Each title includes 2 revision rounds; clear notes reduce email ping-pong.

Say whether you want Mastering here or a mix stem for an external mastering engineer. Read master delivery formats if you go straight to release.

Timing, delivery and large sessions

Allow 2 business days to confirm receipt; mix work starts when files are complete and any balance is settled. Large folders: zip per song or a transfer link — not email attachments above a few megabytes.

Book mix within 48 hours after tracking here and tempo map plus track list stay tied to the session log. Mix later? Re-export yourself before archive deletion after 9 months.

Common mistakes

  • Tracks with different start times — align everything to bar 1.
  • Hidden master-bus processing on every track — disable or label printed FX separately.
  • Mixed sample rates per track — one rate per song.
  • No dry vocal after tuning plugin — deliver tuned print or a clean double.
  • Reference much louder than your mix — roughly level-match in the DAW.

Unsure about export from your DAW? Send a two-track test zip via email; we comment without starting the mix.

Rights and privacy

By uploading you confirm you may have the material mixed. Sample-pack loops keep their own licence; flag commercial limits. We process files under privacy policy; deletion on request is possible within the retention window.

Split ownership among collaborators: get agreement before upload. Contract details sit in terms and conditions and data processing agreement for business clients.

Next step

Per title: €235 including 21% VAT; extra stem €45. Tracking a band first? band budget helps plan the day. Vocals at home? vocal preparation cuts retakes.
