Band recording

Up to 5 musicians at once in a 38 m² live room, individual headphone mixes and a view of the control room — for bands that want to play together, not one instrument at a time.

Band playing together in the studio live room

Recording live needs space, sightlines and someone placing mics while you tune. In Amsterdam Oud-West, Okiatech pairs a live room with a 22 m² control room behind glass so you see and hear what lands on disk.

Book Band recording for rock, indie, jazz, funk or any ensemble that fits one room. Engineer Maarten van der Berg or a colleague plans routing for drums, bass, guitars, keys and vocals. For time and budget, read band studio budget guide before locking a half or full day.

Process

  1. 01

    Prep

Send setlist, tempos and references ahead. Ruben de Vries or the team aligns mic list and schedule with your lineup.

  2. 02

    Soundcheck

Drums first, then bass and guitars, then vocals. Per-player headphone mixes, levels and bleed checked.

  3. 03

    Takes

Full passes and sectional overdubs when needed. We log take numbers and tuning between songs.

  4. 04

    Transfer

Multitrack WAV or session export with agreed folder names. Backup 9 months; see privacy policy.

Live room layout

The live room is 38 m² with a wooden floor, panels and tall canal-house windows. Drummer and singer are placed so everyone sees each other; guitar and bass amps can stay in the room or be isolated depending on tone and vocal bleed.

Maximum 5 players at once — enough for drums, bass, two guitars and vocals. Larger casts are layered: rhythm section first, then overdubs. We discuss that in intake via contact.

Microphones and preamps

12 preamps are available for these sessions. Drums get a close-mic setup we extend if you want extra ride or tom focus. Bass can be DI plus amp; guitars often cabinet plus room mic for air.

Keys and synths feed line or DI. Vocals can move to the 10 m² booth for dry leads after a live take — useful before Mixing.

Headphone mixes

Each musician gets a custom cue: more click, less drums, extra vocal. That cuts talk between takes and keeps momentum. The engineer tweaks mixes between songs without stopping the whole session.

Bring in-ears and we test level before the first pass. Forgot an adapter? Say so when booking so we reserve a standard headphone per position.

Day workflow

A half day (four hours) is realistic for two or three songs when arrangement and tuning are ready. A full day (eight hours) allows more titles, booth overdubs or a second drum setup. Meal breaks sit in the schedule; tired ears show up as repeated takes.

We work Mon–Fri 09:00–21:00 · Sat 10:00–18:00 by appointment. 35% deposit on confirmation; free cancellation until 5 days prior under terms and conditions.

That is the default. Solos or doubled vocals sometimes move to the booth the same day if time allows.

Will our lineup fit?

Up to 5 players at once in the live room. Larger groups are staged; describe your setup via contact.

What if a member is sick?

Tell us immediately. Reschedule free within 5 days. Later changes follow terms and conditions.

Do you deliver a rough mix?

A quick balance for home listening may happen if time remains — not a substitute for Mixing with 2 revision rounds.

How do I plan budget?

Read band studio budget guide and compare half day (€385) with full day (€695).
